This course introduces laboratory personnel, and those required to enter spaces where hazardous materials may be present, to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). It delivers the training required to develop proficiency in handling hazardous materials in the workplace. Additionally, this course may act as an introductory course, a refresher course, or as a resource to refer to as required.
An enrolment key is required for this course. Please speak to your building representative or the Office of Laboratory Safety, HC, to obtain the key.
Learning Objectives: After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the relevance of WHMIS
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of suppliers, employers, and workers as defined by WHMIS
- Explain the key concepts associated with classification
- Identify and understand WHMIS labelling requirements and responsibilities
- Demonstrate an understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
- Identify the health and physical hazards as defined by WHMIS
- Explain the essentials of WHMIS workplace-specific training
Target Audience: The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) e-Learning course is mandatory for designated laboratory workers, managers and anyone who may enter laboratory and related spaces in Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
