Mirror Life Webinar
On January 13, 2026, international mirror biology experts, Dr. Wilmot James and Dr. David Relman, presented a webinar to the Public Health Agency of Canada titled the Risks of Mirror Life. Unlike novel therapeutic mirror biomolecules, mirror life, defined as mirror organisms (e.g., bacteria and viruses) created from mirror biomolecules, are not expected to have any benefits. In fact, mirror organisms are expected to pose significant biosafety and biosecurity threats given the lack of natural predators, immune recognition, and medical countermeasures. As such, there is a growing global consensus that research supporting the creation of self-replicating mirror organisms, which is currently theoretical, should not be pursued.
