Publication of Canada’s Sensitive Technology List
On February 6, 2025, Public Safety Canada published Canada’s Sensitive Technology List (the List). It lists emerging technologies or those that have novel uses, and that Canada seeks to protect from any unwanted transfer to foreign threat actors, as such transfers could harm its national security and defence. The List will be used by the Government of Canada to inform work on foreign investment reviews and export controls among other activities. Facilities applying for a licence under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act should consider the dual-use potential associated with technologies included in the List when developing or updating their Plan for Administrative Oversight. Regulated Parties should also use the List to inform their biosecurity risk assessments and update their biosecurity plans, as necessary.
