This course will introduce you to local risk assessments and will provide you with the tools for conducting local risk assessments in your facility.
This course is intended for people working in laboratories / laboratory personnel, those involved in designing or managing containment facilities, biosafety professionals, or those with an interest in biosafety.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
• Identify the four types of risk assessments that are conducted in relation to the handling and storage of biological material.
• List the steps to conducting a local risk assessment.
• Identify situations that may trigger the review or update of a local risk assessment.
• Identify who should be included in the risk assessment process.
This course will take approximately 60-75 minutes to complete.

This course introduces the concepts of risk assessment and risk groups and goes on to discuss the factors and methodology involved in assessing the risk of a pathogen or toxin.
This course is intended for people working in laboratories / laboratory personnel, those involved in designing or managing containment facilities, biosafety professionals, or those with an interest in biosafety.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
• Given a risk group, understand the pathogen’s relative risks to the individual/animal and the risk to public health, livestock or poultry
• Describe the factors to consider when conducting a risk assessment for a pathogen or toxin
• Given the description of a pathogen, evaluate biological agent-specific characteristics to determine the agent’s risk group
This course will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.

This course will introduce you to a biosecurity risk assessment methodology and will give you the tools for evaluating biosecurity risks in your facility. The concepts presented within this course are described in more detail within the Canadian Biosafety Guideline: Conducting a Biosecurity Risk Assessment.
This course is intended for people working in laboratories / laboratory personnel, those involved in designing or managing containment facilities, biosafety professionals, or those with an interest in biosafety.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
• list the steps in conducting biosecurity risk assessment
• apply the methodology for conducting a biosecurity risk assessment in a practical manner
This course will take approximately 120-135 minutes to complete.
