What to Consider When Ordering College of American Pathologists Proficiency Panels

Each year, the Public Agency of Canada’s Centre for Biosecurity, in collaboration with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, determines the risk group classification of proficiency testing surveys that will be available for purchase from the College of American Pathologists. Following this analysis, we produce an information sheet to indicate surveys that are regulated under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act, the Human Pathogens and Toxins Regulations and, if applicable, under specific sections of the Health of Animals Regulations.

A valid Pathogen and Toxin Licence may be required before you perform controlled activities with regulated surveys, including their importation. Non-compliance with this obligation is an offence under the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act and may result in enforcement actions.

Please note that some surveys may contain aquatic pathogens or plant pathogens that could also be regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

To confirm which surveys require a Canadian Food Inspection Agency import permit, please contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Centre of Administration by email at permission@inspection.gc.ca, or by phone at 1-855-212-7695 or 613-773-5131.

If you have any questions related to this process, or if you would like a copy of this information sheet, please contact the Licensing Program by email at licence.permis@phac-aspc.gc.ca or by phone at 613-957-1779.
