This self-paced module expands access to core
content from Health Canada’s Medical Emergency Treatment for Exposures to
Radiation (METER) training program. Developed in collaboration with the
Canadian Armed Forces, the course provides an overview of the biological
effects of ionizing radiation and the tools used to assess and manage exposure.
Learners will examine how radiation interacts with cells and DNA, explore
radiation dose measurements and units, and consider factors influencing dose
calculations and health risk. The module also addresses risk perception,
sources of exposure, regulatory limits, and introduces key biological dosimetry
techniques and their applications.
