Working with Large Animals in Containment is an interactive and self-directed online learning program designed to provide an overview of working with large animals in containment. This course will also cover information on good work practices and control mechanisms for the safe handling of naturally or experimentally infected animals classified as large animals. This course will build on concepts covered in the foundational course titled Working with Small Animals in Containment.
This course is designed to review the Canadian Biosafety Standard and the Canadian Biosafety Handbook for those who design, build, operate, or work in facilities in which naturally or experimentally infected large animals are contained. Facilities may include, but are not limited to, laboratories and research institutions affiliated with government, universities, and private industry.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
• differentiate between small and large animals in containment
• apply knowledge of key guidelines and standards when working with large animals
• demonstrate a familiarity with large animal risks
• apply knowledge of the good work practices and control mechanisms used for the safe handling of large animals which are naturally or experimentally infected
• demonstrate a familiarity with a variety of large animal containment housing.
This course will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete.
