This course describes the general biosafety recommendations and considerations for activities with biological material in the post-secondary teaching laboratory.
The intended audience for this course are post-secondary school teachers, professors and support personnel (e.g., demonstrators, teaching assistants) who are planning to work with biological material or with environmental samples (e.g., soil, water, skin swabs).
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
• Identify the responsibilities related to biosafety in the teaching laboratory
• Describe best practices in biosafety and biosecurity
• Identify the risks associated with microorganisms
• Describe decontamination methodologies
• Identify components to increase safety of science projects
This course will take approximately 130-145 minutes to complete.
