This course provides an overview of the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (Agency) inspection process for facilities conducting controlled activities under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act and Regulations (HPTA/HPTR) and the Health of Animals Act and Regulations (HAA/HAR) so that you are aware of what to expect when you are inspected. First, you will be given an overview of the activities carried out by the Agency’s Centre for Biosecurity under the HPTA/HPTR as well as how facilities are selected for inspection. Second, you will look at a typical inspection process once a facility has been selected for inspection. Finally, you will learn about Compliance and Enforcement as well as inspector powers under the HPTA/HPTR.
At the conclusion of this module, learners will be able to describe the range of activities carried out by the agency, understand how the Agency selects facilities for inspection, describe the inspection process, including your role before, during and after an inspection and identify the types of non-compliances and the Agency’s graduated approach to regulatory enforcement.
